Double Dog Dare You....

surrogate- a person deputizing for another specific role or office

pneumonia- lung inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection, where the air sacs fill up with pus and become a solid.

harvesting-  remove  the (cells, tissue, or organ) from a person or animal for transplantation or experimental purposes.

This article was about the first successful cloning of dogs. In South Korean got cloned a 3 year old Afghan hound. The researchers harvest an egg after the ovulation and then stimulated the egg with electricity or chemicals to make it divide into a pertri dish. Then they removed  each harvest egg's nucleus and replaced it with the nucleus from  a skin cell from the Afghan hound. Before they put it into the dogs body it spent 4 hours outside. Out of  123 dogs only 3 became pregnant. One miscarried , the other died of pneumonia, and the last one was alive and healthy as a horse, and it just so happened that he was the 1st dog to be cloned and stay alive.

I liked this article because I've always wondered if they could clone dogs, come to find out they can. It was also interesting how they had to clone a dog different than horses, rats or sheep. In all this to say I learned alot about  the cloning of dogs and that it can be a difficult task and how it was a major accomplishment to finally get a dog cloned.

Cure For Cancer

turmeric - a bright yellow aromatic powder obtained form the rhizome of a plant of the ginger family.

anti-inflammatory- used to reduce an sevir inflammation.

antioxidant- a substance that inhibits, oxdation. It's also used to counteract the deterioration of stored food products.

The summery of this article is about the compound that kills cancer cells, or that they are testing to see if it will kill them. This turmeric compound is also made to kill breast and liver cancer cells. They have tested this on mice and they also found that it might fend off Aizheimer's disease too.

I enjoyed this article because I'm very intertested in learning a cure for cancer because I know many people that have been effected by this horrible disease. Its neat because the NF-kappa-B switches on genes for proteins involved in the inflammation of the cell replication. I also found it intetresting because they tested it on mice; you would think that they would at least test it on something that was a tad bit bigger. In all this to say I liked learning about a cure for cancer.
